Press TV has conducted an interview with Sa’ad al-Motallebi, with the State of Law coalition in Baghdad, to discuss the recent gains of the Iraqi army against the Takfiri ISIL terrorist group.

This is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Obviously, we are looking at some gains that have been made based on this report. But overall, can you tell us your assessment of the situation when it comes to the political side of things, if you can, because there are still reports swirling somewhat from US media saying that the Iraqi prime minister perhaps can do more in order to unite the Sunnis and the Shias into the political mix in order to make sure that Iraq moves forward?

Motallebi: I think the Americans are pushing for an unknown equation in Iraq and with all the concessions that the united allies gave within the formation of the Iraqi government with a Sunni president, Sunni head of parliament, Sunni deputy president, Sunni deputy prime minister, Sunni head of parliament and deputy to the parliament with a huge number of ministries to the Sunnis; ministry of defense has being given to them, the head of the chief of staff of the Iraqi armed forces is within the Sunni sphere.

I think it is just a list of demands the United States is providing and pushing to weakening the Iraqi prime minister as they did with the previous Iraqi prime minister. This is completely unacceptable.

The facts on the ground indicate that there is a coalition government made of all representatives of walks of life here in Iraq and ethnic societies and the social make-up of Iraq, where every part of the Iraqi society is represented at a very very high level if not the highest level.

So, the Americans pushing for this very old pretext and very old excuse definitely indicate something that the Americans are harboring a new plot against the people of Iraq.

Press TV: And do you think that when it comes to the way that they are still trying to conduct this so-called the US-led coalition against the terrorists that they are doing a job of eliminating to the best of their capabilities or they are dragging their feet, making this somewhat of a slow-motion effect of trying to get rid of these Daesh terrorists?

Motallebi: I mean the way they are moving against Daesh is part of a mean to fuel the conspiracy theories here in Iraq.

We cannot believe that the United States cannot conduct more than six or seven or maximum 17 airstrikes in Iraq and Syria. This sounds to us like a definite reason for allowing ISIS to continue its operation, allowing ISIS to move freely between Iraq and Syria. Reqqa and Mosul are connected through a continuous caravan of Daesh fighters from Iraq and to Iraq from Syria.

So, all witnesses say that the Americans are flying overhead and they are seeing all this with no action taking. So, as I said, there must be a plot for whatever reason really we don’t understand but definitely there is something wrong with the Americans’ handling of the fight against ISIS.
