Press TV has interviewed Gareth Porter, a historian and investigative journalist from Vienna, and Lawrence Korb, a former assistant to the US secretary of defense from Washington, to discuss the latest developments in the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group.

Porter says the recent developments in the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, including the US, the UK, France, China, Russia and Germany, shows that “both sides absolutely should be able to reach an agreement.”

He continues that the only obstacle in the way of reaching a nuclear agreement in the next few days is that US President Barack “Obama’s administration is still intimidated so much by the influence of the Israeli lobby on the Senate.”

If Washington sticks with positions that have no basis in reality, the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group will come to a standstill, the historian maintains.

For his part, Korb thinks a final agreement is expected to be sealed, adding the problem is that the accord should be ratified by the US Congress.

However, he says, Obama would be able to veto a possible negative vote by congressmen because he would only need one third of the Senate and the House of Representatives to overturn an unpleasant trend.
