US not interested in dealing with Iran as a sovereign power: Analyst

“The United States is not interested in dealing with Iran as a sovereign power," Mark Glenn says.

The United States does not want to negotiate with Iran as a sovereign power, but it is seeking to undo the effect of the 1979 Islamic revolution, a US activist and commentator says.

Mark Glenn, a writer and co-founder of the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement, an interfaith forum dedicated to uniting Muslims and Christians against Zionists, made these remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Sunday.

He was commenting on the negotiations underway between Iran and the United States in Vienna, Austria, to resolve the Western dispute over Tehran’s nuclear energy program. Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China are also participating in the talks.

“Whenever the United States speaks, we have to remember that she is speaking with a forked tongue, a different than when Israel speaks,” Glenn said.

“The United States is not interested in dealing with Iran as a sovereign power,” he added.

“What is taking place here is that the United States has realized that after over three decades the Iranians are no closer to undoing the effect of 1979, and by that I mean principally the war of independence that [Iran] won against the West,” the activist noted.

“They are no closer to undoing the 1979 now than they were over 30 years ago when this took place,” he stated.

“The entire nuclear discussion is aimed at maneuvering Iran into a position where she will, little by little, bit by bit, she will secede certain factors of what has been up to this point a very well-protected political system to Western influence,” Glenn observed.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia as well as Germany are holding talks to finalize the text of a possible deal over Iran’s nuclear program by the end of June.

The two sides reached mutual understanding on the key parameters of the potential deal in the Swiss lakeside city of Lausanne on April 2.

If a final deal is reached, it would lift all international sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic in exchange for certain steps Tehran will take with regard to its nuclear program.
