Press TV has conducted an interview with Mohammad Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, and Wikistrat expert Richard Weitz in Washington DC, to discuss recent remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the P5+1 countries.

Marandi believes that Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks were very important and timely because, according to him, as the negotiations are nearing the final stage, it was necessary for Iran to show once again that its red lines have not changed.

“I think what he (the Leader) is trying to do is to remind the United States, especially because it is the key adversary of Iranians during this whole process, that Iran will not give up his sovereignty and its independence. Any deal that is done between Iran and the P5+1 has to respect Iran’s full sovereignty, its dignity and independence,” Marandi says.

Weitz, for his part, claims that, whereas Iran’s position in the nuclear negotiations looked softer before, it now seems to have hardened.
