EU accused of supporting fascists in Ukraine

The European Union has been accused of supporting fascists in Ukraine. At a conference in Brussels, experts claimed that the West is using Ukraine to prolong tensions with Russia so as to justify the existence and expansion of NATO. The conference coincided with an announcement from NATO that the alliance is to boost its military presence in Eastern Europe.

This conference in Brussels brought together experts who believe that the European Union is using Ukraine as a pawn in order to justify the expansion of NATO and boost the arms industry in a number of EU countries. The West has also been accused of supporting neo-Nazis in Ukraine who currently hold senior political and military positions in the country.

The EU has extended sanctions against the Kremlin until January the 31st, targeting the Russian Federation's financial, energy and defence sectors. The bloc accuses Moscow of orchestrating the conflict in Ukraine but Russia denies this. NATO has just announced that it is deploying 40,000 troops to Eastern Europe and the US says it will also increase its military presence in the region. Experts say the moves are designed to provoke Russia.

The Kremlin has described Western sanctions being imposed on Russia over the crisis in Ukraine as unjustified and illegal. Russia has its own counter-sanctions in place.

In response to the EU sanctions, Moscow has just extended its ban on agricultural imports from the bloc. It is very bad news for EU farmers because prior to the ban the Russian market was worth billions of euro to them.
