Two branches of Russia’s biggest bank, Sberbank, in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, have been targeted by separate explosions, which damaged their buildings.

The blasts, which occurred minutes apart on Sunday night, targeted the branches on Anna Akhatova Street and Frunze Street. There has been no report of injuries.

Security forces launched an investigation into the incidents, which woke up hundreds of people living in nearby residential blocks.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts.

This is not the first attack on Sberbank in Ukraine. In a recent case, unknown assailants threw Molotov cocktails at a branch of the Russian bank in the city of Nikolaev on Saturday.

Another Kiev branch of Sberbank was bombed in April.

The Sunday explosions came at a time of strained relations between Moscow and Kiev over the ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine.

Kiev and its Western allies accuse Russia of destabilizing Ukraine by supporting pro-Russia forces in Ukraine's east. Moscow, however, rejects the accusation.

Ukraine’s mainly Russian-speaking regions in the east have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Russia forces and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations to silence pro-Moscow protests in mid-April.

The persisting conflict has so far claimed the lives of at least 6,500 people and displaced nearly 1.5 million, according to the United Nations.
