American drone pilots ‘psychologically worn-down’

Becker said US drone pilots are psychologically being worn-down.

American drone pilots are psychologically being worn-down because of the criminal character of their efforts, says political commentator Brian Becker.

He made the comments when asked about a recent report by the New York Times that America’s drone operators “are burning out, and the Air Force is being forced to cut back on the flights.”

“Those of us in anti-war movement have been aware of the phenomena of so-called fatigue experienced by drone pilots because some of these drone pilots have contacted the anti-war movement to express their own disenchantment with the drone program and in fact they have moved into a position of complete opposition to the program,” Becker from A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition told Press TV on Friday.

He added that some of the pilots are against the government’s drone policy.

“Some of them consider the drone program to be an illegal, criminal enterprise that allows the United States to target individuals and groups of individuals with the tactic of high-tech murder and assassination from the sky and they are aware that these programs have killed a large number of civilians, including a large number of children,” he explained.

The analyst described the phenomena of so-called fatigue by drone pilots as “a great irony, although understandable.”

“The whole concept of drone warfare is to carry out secret killings against an enemy that you do not engage in real combat,” he said.

“The whole point of the program is to allow the United States of America to engage in military warfare, where all of the bleeding, all of the suffering, all of the death, and all of the destruction happens on one side, on the side of those who have been targeted with drone strikes,” Becker added.
