38 Taliban militants killed in Afghan army operations
The Afghan army has killed 38 Taliban militants in operations carried out in the southern province of Helmand, Press TV reports.
Ten militants were also injured in the Friday operations in the town of Musa Qala, in northern Helmand, and the village of Kajaki, located in the northeastern part of the province.
On Thursday, local Afghan security officials said the militants launched a series of coordinated attacks on the police headquarters in Musa Qala. Seven police officers were killed, and security forces managed to secure the area after nearly eight hours of fierce fighting.
Earlier on Wednesday, a number of security checkpoints were targeted by militants in the Marwa district of the eastern province of Kunar.
Afghanistan has stepped up security operations against Taliban across the war-ravaged country over the past few weeks.
Violence and insecurity is prevalent in Afghanistan nearly 14 years after the US and its Western allies invaded the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.
