An Iranian vice president has warned against the growing extremism, saying the menace could pose serious challenges to the entire world.

“Extremism will not be confined to the Middle East, and failure to stem it can result in serious problems for the global community,” Masoumeh Ebtekar said in a meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende in Oslo on Thursday.

The Iranian official called for closer cooperation in the face of threats by extremist groups such as ISIL, which is operating in Iraq and Syria.

The Iraqi army, backed by volunteer forces, is battling against the Takfiri ISIL group, which has been controlling some parts of the Arab country as well as neighboring Syria.

Syria has also been engaged in fighting with the group, which has been carrying out bestial crimes against different ethnic and religious communities in areas under its control.

Iran’s nuclear talks

Touching on Iran’s nuclear talks, the Iranian official expressed hope that Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries can reach a fair and balanced agreement that would guarantee the Islamic Republic’s nuclear rights.

Negotiators from Iran and the P5+1 – the United States, the UK, France, China and Russia plus Germany – are holding talks on drafting the text of a possible final deal over Tehran’s nuclear program.

This follows a mutual understanding on the key parameters of an agreement reached in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2. The two sides are working to finalize a comprehensive nuclear deal by June 30.

The Norwegian official, for his part, expressed hope that the talks over Iran’s nuclear program would bear fruit, adding that a final agreement would open up an opportunity for the further promotion of mutual cooperation between Tehran and Oslo in different sectors.

Ebtekar, who is also the head of Iran's Department of the Environment, left for Norway on June 15 to hold talks with the officials of the European countries.

The Iranian official held a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in Oslo on Tuesday, during which the two sides exchanged views on a variety of issues, including promotion of bilateral ties as well as the ongoing developments in the Middle East.
