US to ban prosecution of Saudis on Yemen war: Academic

Press TV has conducted an interview with Lawrence Davidson, a professor at the West Chester University from Pennsylvania, to get his take on Saudi Arabia’s use of phosphorous bombs against Yemeni people.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: It seems the big story here, the use of phosphorous bombs, some of the Ansarullah delegation spoken about that, how do you feel about that?

Davidson: Well, reminds me the use of the same sort of weapon in Gaza. So, maybe they’re getting this phosphorous bombs from the Israelis, who also used them. Clearly, there’s a breakdown in what is allowable and what is not allowable, simply because there is no accountability. So, what are you going to do about these Saudi pilots and the officers that they send them out with this kind of weapon. I mean, are you going to prosecute them. What’s going to happen? Nothing is going to happen. And therefore, they will continue to use this stuff.

Press TV: When the Israelis used phosphorous, professor, the Americans were always there to protect the Israelis as they have always been, especially at the lights of the United Nations with veto power. Will they do the same goal for the Saudis?

Davidson: I think they will, if it ever gets that far. The Saudis are important to Washington principally because they supply oil to Washington’s trading partners, particularly Japan and some parts of Europe. So, they will protect them.

Press TV: Right, and in going forward, obviously because the Ansarullah delegation did show picture certainly that is embarrassing at the very least for the Saudis who are very careful about the image, aren’t they?

Davidson: Well, I’m not sure. I mean the Saudis ... I’m not sure if they’re worried about their image. The Saudis are very haughty, I mean, they’re very arrogant, their officials. And obviously, they’re perfectly willing to destroy Yemen and most of its population simply to prevent probably what’s an imaginary fear of Iranian incursion in the [Persian] Gulf. I mean, I don’t think that the Saudis are clearly in touch with reality in many ways. And I don’t think that they’re worried about their image. I think they’re worried about you. And I don’t think that’s a warranted worry, but they’re still worried anyway. And they kill all the Yemenis they need to, to prevent an Iranian influence in this country even though it’s not great, it’s not threatening.
