US trying to stigmatize, isolate China: Analyst
The Obama administering is trying to “stigmatize” and “isolate” China by leveling accusations that the Chinese government stole US federal employees’ records, says professor James Petras.
A new report shows that hackers have accessed Social Security numbers and personal information of almost all US federal workers. The hackers also accessed a database holding sensitive security clearance information on millions of federal employees and contractors.
US officials have attributed the breach of the Office of Personnel Management network to China.
“It’s not plausible to make a definitive statement that China is hacking US federal employment records unless they show that the Chinese government is involved, it could be hackers that use a Chinese portal,” Petras, author and political commentator from New York, told Press TV on Saturday.
“I don’t think this accusation is substantiated,” he said. “At least up to now, we have not seen any evidence pointing to its official policy of the Chinese government.”
“The magnification of these allegations is part of a general campaign organized by the Obama government to stigmatize and isolate China and criminalize its advances in technology,” Petras added.
“We know for a fact that the US government through the National Security Agency (NSA) is engaged in spying and in penetrating other countries’ networks,” the professor said. “So if indeed China is involved, it’s simply imitating the US government.”
He went on to say that the “charges and attempts to demonize China are not going to work because China is an emerging economic power, it has enormous links to most important markets in Asia and throughout the world.”
