British Takfiri militant recruiter voices regret
A former British Takfiri militant recruiter says he regrets paving the way for people to join terrorist groups such as ISIL and al-Qaeda.
Abu Muntasir made the announcement in a documentary by Emmy-winning film-maker Deeyah Khan, the Guardian reported on Saturday.
In the documentary "Exposure: Jihad – A British Story", the sobbing 55-year-old admits that he helped “create the link and clear the paths,” for radical militancy.
“I came back [from war] and opened the door and the trickle turned to a flood. I inspired and recruited, I raised funds and bought weapons, not just a one-off but for 15 to 20 years. Why I have never been arrested I don’t know,” he says in the program, which ITV is to broadcast on June 15.
Muntasir was active in the 1980s and 1990s, when he helped radicalize “thousands” of young Muslims, encouraging large numbers of them to travel to fight in Afghanistan, Kashmir, Burma, Bosnia and Chechnya, the report said.
According to the report, while fighting in the Burmese jungles alongside resistance groups, he realized that his actions were nothing less than aiding butchery and exploitation of young Muslims.
