Israel has barred a Palestinian photographer, injured by Zionist soldiers, from entering East al-Quds (Jerusalem) to receive medical treatment.

Israel's internal security service Shin Bet prevented Nidal Shtayyeh from entering the occupied region for treatment despite being seriously injured in the eye, according to reports on Thursday.

The photographer, who works for China's official Xinhua news agency, was wounded after the Israeli troops attacked Palestinian protesters and reporters during a rally marking the 67th anniversary of the Nakba Day (Day of the Catastrophe) in the West Bank city of Nablus on May 16.

Israel evicted hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland and created the regime on May 15, 1948. The notorious event, remembered as the Nakba, is marked every year by Palestinians all over the world who stage demos against the Israeli occupation.

The photographer said the Israeli military fired rubber bullets and sound bombs while there was no provocation from the side of the Palestinian demonstrators.

“The march was peaceful and no stones were thrown, no photographers were taking any pictures,” said Shtayyeh, adding, “I raised my camera to my right eye to take a picture, but a soldier shot me in my left eye with his rifle, and the rubber bullet went through my gas mask’s glass eye cover and into my eye.”

After receiving initial treatment at Rafidiya hospital in Nablus, the photographer was prescribed to seek further medical assistance at St John’s eye hospital in East al-Quds. However, the Tel Aviv regime has so far refused to grant him admission into the area.

Under the Israeli law, the Palestinians who live in the West Bank must apply for permit from the Tel Aviv regime for their entry into the occupied region.
