Pentagon sent live anthrax to Britain

The Pentagon revealed that an unnamed laboratory in Britain received the samples, which can be used as biological weapon.

The US officials have admitted that one of its laboratories may have inadvertently sent live anthrax to Britain back in 2007.

The Pentagon revealed that an unnamed laboratory in Britain received the samples, which can be used as biological weapon.

"The company has informed us it destroyed samples shortly after testing," said a statement from the UK Health and Safety Executive.

"If anyone would have been exposed in 2007, symptoms would have presented shortly after. No such reports of ill health were apparent in the workforce. On this basis we do not believe there is any continuing health risk to staff or to the public.”

It has come to light that 68 labs have been involved in the anthrax scare from the US.

19 US states and four foreign countries, including Canada, South Korea and Australia received Anthrax samples.

The revelation has triggered sharp criticism from bio-safety experts who call for improved precautions.

The UK Health and Safety Executive said that the US should guarantee that such lapses are avoided in the future.

"We look forward to speaking with the US Department of Defense to understand how this issue arose in 2007 and how they will ensure similar situations are avoided in the future," UK Health and Safety Executive said in a statement.

A former US marine has ruled out the US officials’ argument that the live anthrax samples may have accidentally sent to the UK.

“It’s impossible to believe anything the United States says… It is clear that the United States poses the greatest threat to the safety and security of the world,” Ken O'Keefe told Press TV on Wednesday.

Anthrax scare came to light in the US shortly after 9/11 terror attacks when letters containing powdered anthrax were sent to news organizations and the offices of US senators. 22 people were affected by the bacteria, of whom 5 people died.
