No Iranian missiles deployed in Iraq’s Anbar, says Cmdr.

Major General Mostafa Izadi, a deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces

An Iranian commander has dismissed a recent media report claiming that the country’s missile systems had been transported to Iraq’s Anbar province to be used in the fight against ISIL militants.

“We do not confirm the presence of Iran’s missile systems in Iraq,” Major General Mostafa Izadi, a deputy chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Force, told reporters on Wednesday.

The commander made the remarks after BBC quoting a senior security source in Anbar claimed that six Iranian-made Zelzal-2 rocket launchers had been transported to the frontline in the province for the battle against ISIL militants.

Izadi said that the Iraqi and Yemeni people as well as Lebanon’s resistance movement, Hezbollah, do not need Iran’s military hardware as they are well capable of defending their achievements.

The Iraqi army, backed by volunteer forces, has been battling the ISIL Takfiri group in different parts of the Arab country.

On May 26, Iraq announced the launch of massive operations to drive the ISIL Takfiris out of Salahuddin and Anbar provinces.

ISIL terrorists seized some parts of Anbar in early 2014 and captured Ramadi in May.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been the scene of clashes since ISIL started its campaign of terror in the Arab country in early June 2014.

Iran has stressed on several occasions that it will continue to support Iraq in the fight against terrorism but that it will not interfere militarily in the Arab country.

Tehran says it only provides support for its western neighbor against the ISIL in the form of defense consultation and humanitarian aid.
