At least 17 people in Syria have been injured in two separate mortar attacks by foreign-sponsored militants against residential areas near the capital, Damascus, and the northern city of Aleppo.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said eight civilians, including an 8-year-old girl, sustained injuries when a number of mortar shells landed in the city of Jaramana, situated 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) southeast of Damascus, on Saturday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

The projectiles also caused damage to several houses and buildings at the residential areas.

Separately, Takfiri militants fired mortars at al-Ashrafiyah district of Aleppo, located 355 kilometers (220 miles) north of the capital, leaving nine people, among them three children, injured.

Cities and towns across Syria have suffered the brunt of bomb attacks as well as mortar and rocket fire by Takfiri terrorists since the deadly crisis broke out in the Arab country more than four years ago.

The crisis in Syria has reportedly claimed more than 222,000 lives up until now.

The violence has also forced over 3.8 million Syrians to take refuge in neighboring countries, namely Jordan and Lebanon. More than 7.2 million others have been displaced within Syria, according to the United Nations.
