McCain says Obama ‘delusional’ about US

US Republican Senator John McCain

US Senator John McCain has described President Barack Obama’s recent remarks about the US as “delusional,” saying it is disappointing to characterize the United States as the most respected country while the world is in turmoil.

“For the president of the United States to say that is absolutely delusional,” McCain told Fox Business on Tuesday.

He made the comments one day after Obama said that his administration has lifted the US to become “the most respected country in the world.”

The president said, “People don’t remember, but when I came into office, the Untied States in world opinion ranked below China and just barely above Russia, and today once again, the United States is the most respected country on earth.”

McCain, however, said, “It almost makes me sad to see a president of the United States say that when the world is in incredible turmoil.”

When asked whether it was a good idea to invade Iraq in 2003, McCain said, “it certainly was, given the information that we had at the time.”

“The question then has to be asked, after a great sacrifice of American blood and treasure, and the success of the surge, was it a correct decision to pull everybody out, which then squandered the losses and the sacrifice that had achieved success?"
