Press TV has interviewed Gearoid O Colmain, a Paris-based political analyst and journalist, to ask for his opinion on the upcoming Paris meeting of the so-called anti-ISIL coalition forces, led by United States.

What follows is a rough transcription.

Press TV: Gearoid O Colmain joins us to give us his thoughts on the upcoming meeting of the members of the so-called international coalition against the ISIL.

Colmain: Well, the meeting that is taking place in Paris is another example of the hypocrisy of the [so-called] Western coalition. The ISIL militants were trained by the United States in Jordan, they are being recruited in Afghanistan and other countries and they are essentially a proxy force for US imperialism in Syria and Iraq to destroy those countries in particular Syria. They are a coalition of western-trained terrorists; they are being used to destroy the Assad administration there and to take over Syria; and then to turn Syria into a base of operations against Iran and of course the North Caucasus region. This is part of the NATO’s war against Russia, let us not forget. It has been pretty much obvious from the start that the coalition of Western forces are not interested in destroying the ISIL but rather in helping ISIL to take over the country and then use them as a further proxy force against Iran. It has been admitted even by the French press that NATO member Turkey… for example the chief of intelligence of Turkey, was involved with supplying arms to the ISIL terrorists in Syria. This has been openly admitted many times and of course, we know from the defense intelligence agency documents that have been declassified recently, that the United States did foresee the formation of a Salfist principality in eastern Syria and did foresee the formation of ISIL. It is no secret of course that Senator John McCain has had close contacts with many of these militants. So the [so-called] coalition forces meeting in Paris, are really discussing the progress of ISIL in Syria and whether or not they will succeed in toppling Assad through these proxy forces. I should also point out that the French media have changed the tone slightly in the reporting on ISIL. I have actually heard a very positive report is now coming about ISIL, describing how they are winning hearts and minds and so on in Palmyra and so on. You can see a situation rising where ISIL would be presented as some sort of an alternative to Assad but of course they are playing also the contradictions of the story...
