Syria army thwarts ISIL attack in Hasakah Province
The Syrian army has repelled an attack by ISIL Takfiri militants on Arab country's military posts in the northeastern Syrian province of Hasakah.
A source in the Syrian province, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Syria's official SANA news agency that the militants waged the attack on the Syrian posts in southeastern countryside of Hasakah on Sunday.
The source noted that the army units also carried out a number of operations against the terrorists, killing dozens of militants and destroying their vehicles, equipped with heavy machine guns.
An army unit, according to the source, also managed to destroy two trucks which had been packed with huge amounts of explosives in a village in the area.
The official Syrian news agency also reported that a number of ISIL terrorists were killed and their vehicles, with machine guns mounted on some of them, were destroyed in army operations that targeted the terrorists' dens and gatherings in the villages of Makhzoum, Souda and Abd in the southwestern countryside of Hasakah.
Reports also said that Syrian soldiers destroyed trucks packed with bombs before they reached Abyad army checkpoint, southwest of Hasakah.
Syrian forces have been fighting the Takfiri terrorists across the war-stricken Middle Eastern country.
Last week, at least 140 Takfiri ISIL terrorists were killed in an operation conducted by the Syrian air force on one of the main strongholds of ISIL in the northern province of Raqqa.
The Syrian army and pro-government forces have been fighting foreign-backed militants since March 2011.
The ongoing militancy in Syrian has killed 222,000 people to date, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.
