Press TV has conducted an interview with Richard Becker, with the ANSWER Coalition from San Francisco, for his take on the unabated airstrikes by the Saudi regime against Yemeni people.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: How do you feel about this war, which is essentially entered now its third month?

Becker: Well, I think we have to see it in the context of the spreading war that is engulfing so much of the region, but in this war in particular, we see that behind Saudi Arabia and the other monarchies that are waging war against the people of Yemen, stands the United States. And so, from the point of view of us here in the United States and the entire of our movement, we call for an end to all this intervention, the US’ intervention in the entire region. And you know, we’ve heard from Saudi Arabia that the fact that its territory is being shelled from inside Yemen, is crossing a red line.  I mean, we can hardly think of anything more hypocritical and cynical than that, Saudi Arabia can violently bomb Yemen, kill so many civilians, thousands of people now, carry out this offensive, but say that if there’s any response from inside Yemen against Saudi territory that is crossing a redline. So, we see that Saudi Arabia can only carry out its offensive against the people of Yemen, because it does have the United States’ backing.

Press TV: Is it in the US’ interest for this war to continue because as you said, there has been retaliation within Saudi territory, so how does that work for US at all?

Becker: Well, the position that the United States has taken and its intervention in the region is the primary cause for the spreading war. The war is now in Yemen, the wars in Iraq and in Syria, which have been so devastating. And now, we can see that the war is spreading also into Saudi Arabia itself and not just from one source. So, this is the outcome, the result of the US’ intervention, is the destabilization of the entire region with consequences that at this point are truly impossible to predict.
