Press TV has interviewed two journalists and political commentators Hafsa Kara-Mustapha from London and Maxine Dovere from New York, to discuss the United States’ rejection of a proposal made by Arab countries to establish a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East.

Kara-Mustafa says Washington is signaling that its main priority in the Middle East is safeguarding Israel, not a Middle East free from nuclear weapons.

The US has literally given the green light to Israel to eventually have the possibility to use its atomic bombs against Arab countries, she maintains, adding that the international community should pay attention to the alarming threat of Israel’s nukes.

She argues that the US is supporting Israel, which has threatened regional countries and occupied their lands, but, at the same time, Washington puts pressure on Iran over its peaceful nuclear activities despite the fact that Iran has not violated any UN resolution and has not started even a single war over 150 years.

For her turn, Dovere says if Arabs put down their arms, there would be peace, but if Israel puts down its arms, it would be in pieces. She also says the US has not voted against a nuclear-free Middle East.
