An Argentinean football player has died of a suspected heart attack after fainting during a match.
The Argentine Football Association supervisor for the game, Ramon Gomez, said that Cristian Gomez, the 27-year-old defender of Atletico Parana, suddenly collapsed on the soccer field in the first half of the second-division match against Boca Unidos on Sunday.
The player was taken to General San Martin hospital in the northeastern city of Corrientes but doctors were unable to save him, the official said.
According to Argentine newspaper Crónica, Gomez suffered a suspected heart attack.
Gomez is the second player to die in just less than 2 weeks in Argentina. Emanuel Ortega, a player for fourth-division team San Martin de Burzaco, died after colliding with a concrete wall that surrounded the pitch.
Ortega went shoulder-to-shoulder with a player from Juventud Unida but crashed head into a concrete wall just a meter from the touchline.
According to a report by Argentinean news agency Clarin, Ortega was declared dead after fracturing his skull in the match.
Ortega had emergency surgery on the double skull fracture last week, but the surgery was unsuccessful.
