News in Brief

1. Saudi Arabia continues with its aerial campaign against Yemen, leaving more casualties and further damaging the infrastructure. Yemeni sources say Saudi jets bombed a mosque in Amran province. Eyewitness reports said other mosques along with residential areas were also hit in the assault.

2. The Yemeni army, backed by tribal forces, has launched an attack on an army base inside the Saudi territory. Casualties have been reported in the attack in the southeast of Najran border city. Yemeni TV has also aired footage, showing Russian-made Grad missiles being fired at Saudi border region of Jizan.

3. Bahraini regime forces have attacked anti-government protesters who gathered to show their solidarity with Shia Muslims in Saudi Arabia’s Qatif region. Activists say a number of people were injured after security forces fired tear gas to disperse the crowds. Qatif came under a deadly terror attack on Friday.

4. An Egyptian prosecutor has referred 61 Muslim Brotherhood members to military trial for allegedly forming an armed wing of the banned group. The general prosecution claims the Brotherhood members were being trained to target judges and members of the armed forces, police and public facilities.

5. A police officer in the US city of Cleveland, charged with killing two unarmed African Americans, has been found NOT guilty. Michael Brelo was one of several officers who shot 137 times at the victims in 2012. The judge says the decision to use deadly force was justifiable.

6. Thousands of people from across the globe have rallied against the American biotech and agricultural giant Monsanto. The March Against Monsanto was held in more than 400 cities, including New York, Sydney, and Paris. Protesters vented anger at Monsanto’s genetically modified crops and pesticides which they said adversely affect people’s health.

7. At least five people have been killed after a fire engulfed a hotel in the German Alps. The hotel, located in the southern state of Bavaria, was hosting fifty people when the incident occurred early Saturday. Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.

8. About 230 people have been killed in a heat wave sweeping two southern Indian states. Officials say more than 100 died in Andhra Pradesh alone. In neighboring Telan-gana state, around 130 deaths have been reported since mid-April. Day temperatures in the two states have soared to more than 48 degrees Celsius.
