The army in Yemen, backed by tribesmen, has carried out an offensive on a Saudi army post in A’Alib, southeast of the border city of Najran.

According to reports on Saturday, the attack claimed the lives of a number of Saudi forces and a Jordanian national.

The reports said more than 80 rockets hit Saudi border guard headquarters in the country's southwestern Jizan region.

The operation came in retaliation for the continuing Saudi airstrikes on the Yemeni people, the reports added.

Earlier in the day, Saudi fighter jets pounded a school, an airport and a military base in the western Yemeni city of Hudaydah.

Massive explosions were heard in the capital city of Sana’a following Saudi attacks on weapon storage facilities.

The Saudi strikes also targeted several positions in the Yemeni provinces of Sa’ada and Dhamar.

Meanwhile, reports said that a high-ranking Ansarullah delegation has headed for the Omani capital city of Muscat to discuss the upcoming UN-sponsored Geneva talks on the Yemeni crisis.

Saleh al-Samad, the head of Ansarullah’s political council and Houthi spokesman Mohamed Abdel-Salam are among the members of the delegation.

The visit is being made upon the invitation of Omani officials, reports added.

Touching upon the visit, Abdel-Salam said the Ansarullah movement has accepted Oman’s invitation since the Arab country enjoys relations with all the warring factions in Yemen.

Earlier in the week, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that peace talks aimed at ending the crisis in Yemen will begin in the Swiss city of Geneva on May 28.

Riyadh started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 - without a UN mandate - in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital, Sana’a, and major provinces, and also to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The United Nations (UN) says, since March 19, over 1,800 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen.
