Hezbollah, Syria retake new hilltop in Qalamoun
Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah and the Syrian army have retaken a new hilltop in the border region of Qalamoun, another gain against the militants who are struggling to keep their last holdouts in the mountainous area.
Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV reported Saturday that Hezbollah fighters and Syrian troops further advanced in the Jord Flita region and managed to recapture Tallit Sadr al-Bustan.
The report said that scores of militants were killed in the operation, which saw Hezbollah fighters and the Syrian army taking full control of the hilltop.
Tallit Sadr al-Bustan lies nearly two kilometers north of Tallit Moussa, the most strategic peak in Qalamoun, which was retaken nearly 10 days ago.
The new gain gives the allied forces even more maneuverability against what remains of the of al-Nusra Front militants on the outskirts of the Syrian village of Flita. It also makes the movement of Takfiris around Jarajeer and Arsal more difficult.
The advancement is the latest in a series of achievements made by Hezbollah and Syrian forces in their three weeks of battle against the terrorists in the highly strategic area, which straddles the Lebanese-Syrian border.
Before the Syria-Hezbollah joint operation started, al-Nusra militants had been using Qalamoun for transferring weapons and reinforcements from Lebanon into Syria, where they have been engaged in terrorist operations.
More than 310 square kilometers of territory have been retrieved from the terrorists during the Qalamoun battle, with many arms depots, operation rooms, factories for manufacturing booby-trapped cars and hideouts of the terrorists having been destroyed in the mountainous region.
