Russia calls for immediate resolution of Yemen conflict

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has called for the immediate and peaceful resolution of the bloody conflict in Yemen.

Bogdanov made the remarks in a meeting with Saudi Ambassador to Moscow Abdulrahman al-Rassi in the Russian capital on Tuesday, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“The Russian side stressed the necessity of the soonest settlement of the conflict in Yemen exclusively by peaceful means through an inclusive United Nations-brokered national dialogue,” the statement read.

The two sides also exchanged views on the situation and developments in other Middle Eastern countries, according to the statement.

Saudi Arabia launched military aggression against Yemen on March 26 - without a UN mandate - in a bid to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The United Nations (UN) says that, since March 19, over 1,800 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen.
