Press TV has conducted an interview with author and Middle East expert Kevin Barrett, in Madison, and Michael Lane, the president of the Institute for Foreign Policy, in Washington, to discuss a conference on Yemen hosted by Saudi Arabia amid Riyadh’s illegal air campaign against the impoverished country.

Barrett believes that Saudi Arabia is functioning as the United States’ agent in the Middle East to crush any independent and democratic movement in its neighboring countries like Yemen and Bahrain and to ultimately preserve Washington’s interests in the region.

“Today, the handwriting is on the wall and people can see that these kinds of efforts to impose imperial control in the Middle East have their days numbered,” Barrett says.

However, Lane maintains that Saudi Arabia and other participants in Riyadh conference are seeking to drag Yemen out of the current political turmoil.
