Resistance front unbreakable: Syria’s Assad

A picture released by the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) on May 19, 2015 shows President Bashar al-Assad (R) meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, a top advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says no one can break up the resistance front in the region, assuring that it will emerge victorious in the battle against terrorism.

The axis of resistance has been shaped in the region and no one can break it up and it will definitely attain victory, President Assad said Tuesday in a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, a top adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

The Syrian president said attempts by some regional states, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, have failed to undermine the resistance front in the Middle East.

Assad hailed Iran’s support for Syria in its battle against Takfiri terrorist groups.

Victories against terrorism, certain regional powers, divisive ideologies and extremism are victories both for Iran and Syria, President Assad said.

Without Iran’s assistance, he added, such victories would not have been possible.

Velayati, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the recent achievements of the Syrian armed forces against militants in the Qalamoun region near the border with Lebanon.

In a nearly two-week battle, Syrian forces and the fighters of Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, have managed to recapture more than 300 kilometers of the border region from the al-Nusra Front militants.

Velayati said the resistance shown by the Syrian government and nation has elevated the position of the resistance front as well as the personal status of President Assad, saying that Syria is in a better position compared to the beginning of the crisis in 2011.

The former Iranian diplomat, who served for 16 years as Iran’s foreign minister in the 1980s and 90s, criticized some regional states for training, equipping and recruiting militants, saying that the policy will certainly backfire.

“Their illusions and evil dreams for dominating the region and sowing discord and even disintegrating some states will never come true,” Velayati said, adding that the Islamic Republic will, as always, stand by the people and government of Syria.
