Rubio calls Hillary Clinton 'a defender of the status quo'

US Republican presidential contender Marco Rubio has denounced former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as “a defender of the status quo”.

In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Rubio said Democratic presidential candidate Clinton was not suitable for the White House because she would continue President Barack Obama’s failed policies.

“This is not a time for the status quo,” Rubio declared. “She’s a defender of the status quo in a time when we need transformation in our policies.”

Rubio also slammed Clinton and her husband, former US President Bill Clinton, over their scandalous past.

“There seems to be this cloud of constant scandal and things that distract us from the core issues of the moment,” he said of how people in the US viewed the Clintons.

Last month, the first-term senator from Florida called Clinton a leader from the past whose time is over.

Rubio presented him as a next-generation leader ready to take the United States into a “new American century.”

“We Americans are proud of our history, but our country has always been about the future,” Rubio said on April 13.

Rubio, who has recently emerged as one the strong supporters of Israel, also criticized Obama’s efforts to reach an agreement with Iran over its nuclear energy program.

Iran and the P5+1 –  the US, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – along with officials from the European Union reached a landmark framework agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program on April 2 in the Swiss lakeside city of Lausanne.

Rubio said, “We now know what the outlines of the deal are, and it’s much worse than we anticipated.”

He added that every time there are “new revelations about the deal it gets worse and worse and worse.”

In an interview with Press TV on April 11, American investigative journalist Wayne Madsen said Rubio is playing off Iran nuclear issue in order to please a large Jewish population in Florida.

Madsen said that “Rubio is obviously catering to a large Jewish population in his home state of Florida which is centered around the three most populous condominium communities.”

“He feels he can win the presidency of the United States with those Jewish votes, I suppose, along with his rightwing Cuban friends down in Miami Bay,” he observed.

“But I think people are going to see through Rubio. He is not ready for prime time. He never has been,” the veteran journalist noted.
