North England people urge integration with Scotland

UK

Tens of thousands of people in North England have signed a petition demanding to break away from England and join Scotland.

The petition, #TakeUsWithYouScotland, which appears on the website Change.org says  ‘the northerners’ have more bonds with Scotland than with “the ideologies of the London-centric south.”

“The deliberations in Westminster are becoming increasingly irrelevant to the north of England. The northern cities feel far greater affinity with their Scottish counterparts such as Glasgow and Edinburgh than with the ideologies of the London-centric south,” it reads.

Now William Spring, a political commentator, in London believes, “Those who have drafted the petition are clearly anxious to create some sort of momentum for secession of Northern regions of England to Scotland and it’s not surprising that people involved in this project are actually from the SNP (Scottish National Party). When you have a cause such as Scottish independence, that will bring a lot of associated issues along.”

“It appears to me that there are moves in the cabinet already to give North of England more autonomy like moves to create a mega city which is another focus for economic activity in Manchester and Leeds.”

Spring told Press TV’s UK Desk in a Sunday interview that “there are two possible futures for Scotland in my opinion: One is full independence which demonian status like Canada, Australia and New Zealand which includes the queen and crown cemented and keeping the new kingdom together. The other alternative is federalism which requires very close analysis of what are the shared powers, what are the powers for the federal government and what are the powers of the nations.”

The petition suggests the map of the UK be redrawn, extending Scotland’s southern borders along a line that runs between the mouth of the Humber and the Dee, which flows east from Wales via Chester and discharges to the sea between Wales and the Wirral peninsula in England.

“The needs and challenges of the north cannot be understood by the endless parade of old Etonions lining the frontbenches of the House of Commons. The north of England should join the newly independent Scotland and regain control over its own destiny. We, the people of the north, demand that in the event that Scotland becomes independent the border between England and the New Scotland be drawn along a line that runs between the River Dee and the mouth of The Humber,” says the petition.
