Press TV has conducted an interview with Empress Phile, with the International Million Woman Movement, in Philadelphia, and Lee Kaplan, an investigative journalist in Berkeley, to discuss a report by the Human Rights Watch that accuses the US government of rampant torture and abuse of prisoners at detention facilities.

Phile says the US government has used inmates as subjects of experiments, including medical ones, in recent years, a measure that has made the prisoners more sensitive to emotional situations or even diseases.

He also said that the increase of incarceration is directly linked to “the prison-industrial complex,” in which private companies act as prisons in order to assist the government in the face of economic, social and political problems, Phile maintains.

Meanwhile, Kaplan questions the veracity of the report, claiming that even the founder of the HRW, Robert L. Bernstein, no more believes in the accuracy of its reports.
