US war with Russia ‘not realistic possibility’: Analyst
Former US Senate Foreign Policy Analyst James George Jatras says Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson knows that a US military attack against Russia would not be a realistic possibility.
He made the comments after Carson said he would attack Russia if it was necessary.
“Dr. Carson’s remarks perhaps have been misinterpreted somewhat. The way I saw the report he was saying he would not be willing to go to war against Russia. He stated in general terms that he would take as president whatever actions that are necessary to defend the American people, but I don’t think he was suggesting that a war with Russia would be any realistic possibility,” Jatras told Press TV on Monday.
“He was a little peculiar that he referred to Ukraine as an ally, although of course we have no alliance with Ukraine, so technically Ukraine is not an ally,” he added.
When asked about the use of military force against Moscow in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Carson said, “if the interest and the existence and the safety of the people of the United States was at stake – and that was the only way to protect them – of course, I would do whatever was necessary.”
“I would, obviously, do that in consultation with very competent generals and people who are more knowledgeable in that area than I would be,” the Republican stated.
The retired neurosurgeon launched his presidential bid last week.
Jatras concluded that his remarks “should not be taken too much out of context or extrapolated into something that they almost certainly did not mean.”
