US seeking ‘regime change in Russia’: Bruce Gagnon

The goal is to destabilize Russia by creating chaos outside its borders, Gagnon said.

Washington’s long-term plan has been to destabilize Russia in order to have regime change in Moscow by creating chaos around the country, an American political commentator says.

“The goal is to destabilize Russia’s border and to internally destabilize Russia by creating chaos outside the border,” Bruce Gagnon from Global Network against Weapons & Nuclear Power in Space told Press TV on Friday.

“They hope to be able to create chaos inside… and having regime change in Moscow. That’s the bottom line. That’s the goal that the United States wants to produce,” he added.

The analyst explained that Moscow’s natural gas is the reason behind Washington’s plans.

“Russia has the world’s largest supply of natural gas and with the melting of the arctic ice because of the climate change, Russia also has the largest land border with the Arctic Sea and clearly we know that the Western oil corporations are just dying to get their hands on being able to drill in the Arctic Sea for oil and natural gas,” he said.

Ties between Washington and Moscow deteriorated last year after pro-Western forces ousted Ukraine’s former president Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014.

Washington accuses Moscow of providing heavy weaponry and training pro-Russian fighters and of deploying air defense systems in eastern Ukraine.

Russia denounces the accusations as baseless and says Washington is responsible for the escalating tensions in Ukraine by sending arms in support of the Ukrainian army.

The Kremlin has warned that the US involvement could further "destabilize" Ukraine, where the conflict has killed more than 6,000 people in the past year.
