Yemeni army soldiers backed by the members of the popular committees have flushed al-Qaeda terrorists out of the city of Arish in the southern province of Aden.

The Yemeni forces managed to capture some military equipment and vehicles belonging to the terrorists, reports said on late Friday.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), known as the most lethal arm of the terrorist network, is currently engaged in a battle against the Yemeni army and the popular committees loyal to the Ansarullah fighters of the Houthi movement, who control the Yemeni capital city of Sana’a and other major provinces.

The clashes come against the backdrop of an ongoing aggression by Saudi Arabia against Yemen with fighter jets bombing the civilians and the infrastructure in the impoverished Arab country while they also airdrop arms and ammunition to the AQAP militants.

There have been increased warnings that the aggression could strengthen the grip of terror groups across Yemen. Ansarullah revolutionaries have repeatedly declared the fight against extremism and terrorism as one of their major objectives.

Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26, without a UN mandate, in a bid to restore power to Yemeni fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a close ally of Riyadh.

In the latest in a string of deadly strikes, Saudi warplanes targeted several positions in the northwestern province of Jawf. Reports said the attacks left several people dead and injured.

Local Yemeni sources also say that Saudi warplanes have totally destroyed the communication infrastructure of Sa’ada province.

Over 1,200 people, including many women and children, have lost their lives in the Saudi airstrikes since March 26.
