Veteran journalist slams Israel’s ‘horrible treatment’ of US
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry in Israel after his reelection was an “insult to the American people,” a political analyst in Atlanta says.
Kerry had proposed to travel to Israel immediately after Netanyahu’s victory on March 17, but was rebuffed by the Israeli premier, Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Sunday.
Kerry was instead asked to visit Israel after the formation of a new coalition cabinet by Netanyahu.
“It’s going to be very interesting to see what the president will do publicly to respond to this insult to the American people,” Jim W. Dean, the managing editor and columnist at Veterans Today, told Press TV on Tuesday.
The report comes amid simmering tensions between Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama. The president refused to meet with Netanyahu when he was in Washington, DC in March.
It is time for Obama and Kerry to launch a counterattack against Israel for the “horrible treatment” that their country has received from the Zionist regime, Dean noted.
The majority of American people, particularly Christian Zionists, have no knowledge of the “nasty things” that Israel has been involved in, including being a major supporter of the ISIL terrorist group, he added.
On March 3, Netanyahu addressed a joint session of the Republican-dominated Congress, where he warned Washington that it was negotiating a “bad deal” with Iran over its nuclear energy program.
The invitation to Netanyahu was extended by Republicans without consultation with the White House, drawing angry reaction from the Obama administration, which called it a breach of protocol.
