Greece to lobby EU, ECB for swift loan payout

Greece has called on its international creditors to swiftly release delayed bailout funds for the country to be able to keep up with its debt payments.

The Greek government spokesman says Athens could face bankruptcy in the coming weeks if delayed funds are not released. Gabriel Sakellaridis said government coffers are running out of cash and without the bailout funds Athens won’t be able to pay off its debt and run the government. Greece has been negotiating with the international creditors to deliver economic reforms in return for the remaining money in its bailout fund worth seven-point-two billion euros. The country has been under pressure to end state support for several pension funds, maintain a low minimum wage, and slash various pension payments as part of an agreement.
