Nurse gets 18 yrs in jail for raping unconscious patients

Andrew Hutchinson from Garford, Oxfordshire had raped two unconscious women who were brought in to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

A 29 year old British nurse has been sentenced to 18 years behind the bars for raping unconscious patients in A&E.

Andrew Hutchinson from Garford, Oxfordshire raped two unconscious women who had been brought in to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he worked.

He had also filmed himself carrying out sexual assaults on two other unconscious women.

His crimes came to light after he was arrested for secretly filming young girls in Oxfordshire.

Police rummaged through his home and found footage of the sexual assaults on his phone and computer.

His victims were unaware of what he had done until police detectives traced them.

Judge Ian Pringle QC decried the crimes as "despicable".

"When they were unconscious requiring your help and your assistance as their nurse, you raped them and you filmed it...It is impossible to conceive of a greater breach of trust in our society," he was quoted as saying by the British media.

Officials at John Radcliffe hospital said they would carry out an internal review to see if Hutchinson could have been prevented from committing his crimes.

The British police have received more than 1,600 reports of sexual attacks in hospitals in the last three years, with the record revealing a hidden surge in sexual abuse in health centers.

Records obtained by the British daily The Guardian show a 50% rise in reports of sexual violence in hospitals since 2011. The figures include a total of 1,615 alleged attacks, including at least 157 rape allegations.

Last year, the Metropolitan police had been told of 17 rapes and 124 other sex offenses inside London hospitals. It indicates that the issue was a particular problem in mental health units.
