Obama failed in leading US: Sen. Rubio

“The wrong people are running (the US),” said Republican Senator Marco Rubio on Saturday.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio has criticized President Barack Obama for what he described as his failure in leading the United States.

“The wrong people are running it,” said Rubio at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition summit in Waukee, Iowa, on Saturday. He added that “too many people in charge have forgotten fundamental truths.”

He said though the US “had bad presidents before and bad governments before,” American exceptionalism cannot be stemmed from Obama’s two terms of leadership.

Obama’s poor economic and foreign policies have been a cause for concern over deteriorating US influence, Rubio argued, citing the state of the country’s jobs market as the most important flaw in Obama’s leadership.

“Adjusting to the 21st century means understanding that automation and technology have ultimately changed the nature of work,” he charged.

The Florida lawmaker also slammed Obama for his actions on the world stage, especially for the president’s approach toward Iran over its nuclear program.

“We can’t be a strong country if we are ambivalent towards our allies and accommodating of our enemies,” he said.

Rubio criticized Obama for showing “more respect for” Iran than Israel in reference to the president’s interactions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Obama has recently told a group of American Jews at the White House that he would not meet with Netanyahu until nuclear negotiations with Iran end, according to The New York Times.

The president told the group two weeks ago that a face-to-face meeting in Washington would possibly end with Netanyahu publicly complaining about his policies regarding the Iran nuclear talks.

Iran and the P5+1 group – the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – reached a framework agreement over Tehran’s nuclear program in Switzerland on April 2, as a prelude to a final deal expected to be reached by the end of June.

The relationship between Obama and Netanyahu reached a new low last month when Netanyahu opposed the formation of a Palestinian state.

Rubio, a 2016 presidential hopeful, also said he would lead the country to prosperity if elected president, promising to turn the US into “a special nation.”
