A major military camp in Yemen’s capital has come under attack by Saudi warplanes, as Riyadh continues its aggression against the southern Arabian Peninsula state.

Saudi fighter jets on Saturday bombed al-Arqoub military base in eastern Sana’a, eyewitnesses and residents said.

It was the first time the strategic camp was hit since Saudi Arabia initiated its air campaign against Yemen later in March. Al-Arqoub was mainly used by the Ansarullah Houthi fighters in the group’s ongoing battle against the terrorists in the eastern province of Ma'rib.

Officials in the popular committees of the Ansarullah movement have yet to comment on the current situation of the facility, which was under the control of the Yemeni Army’s seventh brigade.

Saudi bombers also attacked a water reservoir in al-Hoban district near the southwestern city of Ta’izz on Sunday. The assault is expected to further complicate the humanitarian situation in the area as people are facing huge shortages of food and clean water as a result of the month-long aggression.

Another military base run by the Houthi fighters on the outskirts of Ta’izz was also attacked Saturday by the Saudi fighter jets.

Saudi ground forces also continued their illegal shelling of Yemen’s northern regions with military forces firing artillery on some border regions in Sa’ada Province more than 45 times.

Earlier in the day, Saudi jets struck al-Anad military airbase north of Aden, which is now under the control of Ansarullah fighters.

Clashes also erupted on Saturday between Yemen’s Houthi fighters and al-Qaeda militants in the same region leading to the killing of 38 people, most of them Houthis.

Saudi Arabia launched its air campaign against Yemen on March 26 - without UN mandate - in a bid to undermine the Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

Late on Tuesday, Riyadh announced the end of the first phase of its military operation, which has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 people in 27 days. However, sporadic airstrikes have continued with Saudi bombers targeting Houthi positions across the Arab country over the past days.
