A senior Iranian nuclear negotiator says certain clarifications have been made on the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions during the latest round of talks over Tehran’s nuclear program.

“The US and European sides have made good clarifications on the lifting of sanctions,” Abbas Araqchi, the deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, said on Friday.

Araqchi, who leads the Iranian negotiating delegation in the latest round of talks in Vienna, added that the Iranian team has also held “useful” talks with US negotiators on a law being discussed at US Congress over Iran’s nuclear talks.

He said that the drafting a final deal is proceeding well but slowly.

Araqchi’s remarks came ahead of a third day of the latest round of talks between representatives from Iran and the P5+1 group over Tehran’s nuclear program in Vienna.

The two sides kicked off the fresh round of negotiations aimed at drafting a final nuclear accord on Wednesday with a bilateral meeting between Iran and the European Union.

The intensive talks resumed for a second day on Thursday.

On the first day of the negotiations, Araqchi said that the issue of anti-Iran sanctions is among the key topics on the agenda of this round of talks.

He said that the Iranian delegation will demand that the US representatives in the talks provide the Iranian team with “clear, precise information” on “the details related to the lifting of the sanctions.”

Iran and the P5+1 - the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain, and Germany – reached a mutual understanding on the parameters of a comprehensive agreement over Iran’s nuclear program in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.

Less than 24 hours after the release of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the US published its own edition of the fact sheet on agreed parameters.

The US claims that under the mutual understanding, the sanctions against Iran could be phased out.

Iran, however, stresses that according to the JCPOA, all sanctions have to be lifted simultaneously as soon as a possible final deal comes into force.
