Press TV has conducted an interview with Randy Short, with the Black Autonomy Network Community Organization from Washington, to get his take on police brutality toward the black population in the United States.

The following is a rough transcription of the Interview.

Press TV: Freddie Gray’s case is quite disturbing especially with the spinal injury that he suffered before passing away. How do you see in this context of course of larger issue of police brutality against African-Americans?

Short: It is symptomatic that there has been infiltration of the police departments by white hate terrorist groups. And they planned and they announced in 2012 that they would begin to murder blacks to the police department, and the government has done nothing about it. This is consistent.

Press TV: What needs to happen now for any sense of accountability at least?

Short: If the government is not going to act, the people need to defend themselves. They need to have weaponry. What else can you do? By the way, I do not believe the man had a knife. They claim he had a switchblade. People have not used switchblades since the 70s. The same thing happened here in Jackson, Tennessee. They alleged that my god-son had a knife. And I need to say that my relatives are named Gray. That is probably one of my cousins that they killed. We do not believe that. The police keep being given a justification, excuses, to murder us just like Hitler had a reason.

People need to protect themselves. A hundred years ago, in Washington D.C., … blacks had to shoot and kill white police officers to calm them down because they were often the spear point of lynchings and mass pogroms where blacks were the victims of genocide in this country. They are going to have to fight back. Either the government can enforce the laws and enforce our right to be human beings, or people are going to have to defend themselves. I had another relative. Police came in his house and killed him just a few months ago. You come in the house and shoot someone? How do you relate to law enforcement that has a right to kill you because the color of your skin?

The Obama administration is guilty of not protecting human rights of African-Americans. And this woman that they just got confirmed for the new attorney general, Loretta Lynch, is a human rights atrocity. She is a fraud, and they are trying to use her gender and her color as a cover for more repression of African-Americans. It is a disgrace.

We are going to have to defend ourselves. Who is going to help us? Where is the help? Where is the UN? When the UN comes and asks the … So, what choice do we have but to defend ourselves? Defensively, what choice? What will people do? Do we deserve to die because we exist and we are not white?
