Saudi war on Yemen only harms Muslim world: Iran's Larijani

Iran's Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani

Iran’s parliament (Majlis) speaker has lashed out at Saudi Arabia for its nearly month-long aggression against Yemen, saying the massacre of innocent civilians has had no result but damage the Muslim world.

“These actions had no result but harming the entirety of the Muslim world and endangering peace and stability in the [Middle East] region,” Ali Larijani said Thursday in a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Cemil Çiçek.

"Since the very beginning of the crisis in Yemen," Larijani added, Iran believed that the only solution to the crisis in Yemen was "Yemeni-Yemeni dialog" and "making efforts for the formation of a national unity government."

For his part, the Turkish top legislator described as sorrowful the ongoing situation in Yemen, expressing regret that the blood of Muslims is being spilled in Yemen.

Çiçek stressed that Turkey supports political dialog as the solution to the Yemeni crisis.

Saudi Arabia launched it air campaign against Yemen on March 26 - without a United Nations mandate - in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

Late on Tuesday, Riyadh announced the end of the first phase of its unlawful military operation, which claimed the lives of more than 950 people in 27 days. However, sporadic airstrikes have continued with Saudi bombers targeting Houthi positions across the Arab country over the past two days.
