Russia, Argentina sign a memorandum of cooperation to upgrade ties
Russia and Argentina are to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the prospect of expanding bilateral relations, Kremlin says.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will sit down for talks with visiting Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner in the Kremlin on Thursday. The two leaders are expected to sign about 20 cooperation documents on establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership, the Russian president’s aide Yuri Ushakov said on Thursday.
"The document is geared to raise the level of bilateral relations”, he said.
Putin and Kirchner are expected to discuss expanding bilateral ties in the economic, energy, military, cultural and humanitarian spheres, the Russian official added.
The presidential aide said energy-related issues would be a vital topic for discussion between the Russian and Argentinean presidents
Russia’s state-run nuclear corporation Rosatom and its Argentinean colleagues are to sign a memorandum of cooperation which paves the way for Russia to build nuclear plants in Argentina, he noted
According to Putin’s aide, the development of economic cooperation between Russia and Argentina, which is Moscow’s number four trade partner in Latin America, would be high on the agenda of the talks.
In 2014, Russia-Argentina trade reached USD 1.3 billion.
