‘Missing British family could be with ISIL in Syria’
British police have expressed concern about a missing UK family of six, saying they could be with the ISIL militants in Syria.
British Thames Valley Police say the family was last seen on April 7 and reported missing to the police on April 16.
Asif Malik and his wife Sara Kiran were last seen with their 7-year-old daughter and three sons aged four, two and one on the 7th of April 2015.
Police say, given the online rhetoric from ISIL encouraging people to travel to Syria, they are concerned the family may be seeking to travel to the Arab country.
Although there is no tangible evidence to suggest the family intend on joining any groups fighting in Syria, concerns by friends and relatives, as well as their chosen route for travel have caught police's interest.
The family had made no mention of plans to travel abroad and left their home in Slough to board a ferry to Calais, France. Police investigations found they had traveled across Southern Europe by train and had passed Budapest five days after they were last seen.
Malik’s distraught family have made a public and direct plea in which they describe the family’s heartbreak.
"With the reality that our loved one Asif Malik and his family have left the UK without any notice, our lives have been completely devastated," they said.
"We are totally distraught, upset and in shock. The greatest sadness is the decision by Asif and Sara to travel with their young family, such beautiful children."
Police have emphasized their concern about “anyone who has or is intending to travel to the part of Syria" controlled by the ISIL, calling it an "extremely dangerous place and not a place where young children should be taken."
