Press TV has conducted an interview with Yuram Abdullah Weiler, a journalist and political commentator from Denver, to discuss Iran’s military might and its peaceful behavior over the recent centuries.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: How strong have the Iranian armed forces become throughout the years since the Islamic Revolution, considering the fact that Iran’s military doctrine has always been defensive?

Weiler: That’s quite correct. If we look at Iran’s history, we see that last time that Iran took an aggressive action was when Nader Shah invaded India in 1738. This of course is completely the opposite of the behavior of the United States. We don’t need to look back any farther than last week to see aggressive actions. Now, what Ayatollah Khamenei said was that the US is the biggest threat to the region and that is quite correct.

If we go to the new secretary of defense, who is clearly a Zionist supporter, in a visit to Israel back in 2013, he stated and I quote: Protecting America means protecting Israel and that’s why we’re here in the first place. Now, according to the Zionist organization united with Israel, Carter is regarded by Israel as an honest and perceptive friend in the uppermost assurance of the Pentagon. Now, that’s very disturbing that we have what is essentially a representative for the Zionist entity at the helm of the Pentagon. Well, this all situation is made quite clear as far as the United States is being threatening again against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The day before the latest outline of agreement was signed in Switzerland, Obama’s press secretary Josh Ernest, after being asked by a reporter, warned if the negotiations fail, there is of course military option that setting on the table. And I might say not only is a military option on the table but it has a nuclear centerpiece with the B61-12 a so-called LEP that stands for (Life Extension Program) and this is of an earlier B61 atomic bomb design. This is a smart nuclear bomb and it is specifically designed as an earth penetrator. According to Hans M. Kristensen, who is the director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation Of American Scientists, this B61-12 is in fact a new weapon it has improved military capabilities. And according to him, this is the most expensive nuclear bomb project ever. Now, the development of this B61-12 smart nuke places the US in violation of not only its own 2010 nuclear posture review but also article 6 of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Press TV: Iran and the P5+1 are preparing for fresh talks on a conference of nuclear deal with Tehran after reaching a mutual understanding in Switzerland. Why do you think the US is resorted to military threats at this critical time?

Weiler: This is part of the game. If you look at the US’s history, you will see time and again they have violated agreements that they have made. You don’t have to look at any farther than history of the relations of the United States’ government with the NATO’s people here to see that virtually every treaty that was ever made, was violated. Now you have a situation, now you have a president who is a democrat and he is up against the majority Republican Congress, so he is playing a rather dangerous, I might say, compromising game in trying to posture himself as the perpetual compromiser and trying to be all things for all people. When in fact what he should be doing is cutting down all of the high affectionately called a lunatic fringe in the Congress and say we need to have this agreement with Iran because this would be beneficial for the majority if not virtually all people in the world.
