Russia's top MP blames US 'arrogance' for global crisis

Russia’s Lower House State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin

Russia’s top legislator has described the US' “arrogance” and its lack of understanding of the global issues it tries to resolve as the key contributor to the current crises affecting international institutions and global security.

“The synthesis of [the US] ignorance and arrogance multiplied by the blockade of inconvenient information and sometimes by outright slander has already brought forth tragedies in the Middle East and Central Asia and in other regions of the world,” said Russia’s Lower House State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin during the chamber’s Monday session with political experts.

“Besides, it (Washington) caused a misbalance in the whole system of international institutions, including those in the security sphere,” he added, as quoted in an RT report. “As a result, the whole world is in a crisis situation.”

The senior lawmaker specifically pointed to Washington’s handling of the Ukraine crisis, saying, “A very demonstrative and even symbolic example is the great number of anecdotal statements made by the US State Department on the situation in Ukraine. They all demonstrate how weak is their handling of the problems that they are rushing to solve.”

He further described US attempts to sideline Russia on major international issues as “counterproductive and useless.”

Naryshkin’s remarks came following Sunday statements by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier that he considered it impossible to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Group of Seven summit this year, as suggested by German leftist politicians.
