Saudi warplanes bombard military barracks in southern Yemen
Saudi warplanes have bombarded a military barracks in southern Yemen as Riyadh continues its military aggression against the Popular Committees loyal to Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement in the impoverished Arab country.
Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Saudi aircraft struck Hamza camp on the eastern outskirts of the southern city of Ibb, located about 194 kilometers (121 miles) south of the capital, Sana’a, on Monday, leaving a number of people injured, Arabic-language al-Masirah satellite television network reported.
Later in the day, Saudi military aircraft also pounded an airport in the western province of Amran. There were no immediate reports on the extent of casualties and damage.
The Saudi military aircraft have hit power transmission lines in al-Farza region in the central province of Ma’rib, causing a power outage in the area.
The spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces and Popular Committees says Saudi Arabia seeks to level Yemen’s infrastructure to the ground.
Colonel Sharaf Luqman said in a press conference in Sana’a on Monday that civilians and Yemeni infrastructure have been the target of the Saudi aggression against Yemen, adding, “Saudi Arabia is the international supporter of terrorism.”
A lot of governmental buildings, schools, shops, gas stations, markets, stadiums and mosques have been destroyed in the Saudi attacks, the spokesman added, describing the Saudi brutalities in Yemen as “war crimes.”
Saudi Arabia is “targeting everything” in Yemen, Luqman said, noting, “Saudi Arabia is hiring foreign armies and its troops cannot dare to fight Yemenis.”
He emphasized that the Yemeni people will strongly respond to the Saudi aggression.
The Saudi air campaign against Yemen started on March 26, without a UN mandate, in a bid to restore power to Yemen’s former fugitive president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Hundreds of civilians, including women and children, have been killed in the attacks.
