Republican National Committee chief: Clinton lied repeatedly to Americans

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has attacked Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, saying she lied repeatedly to the American people.

"Hillary Clinton is, quite frankly, someone the American people can't trust," he said in an interview with CBS on Sunday before Clinton officially kicked off her presidential campaign.

“Why should Americans trust her? Her record is disappointing. Her rhetoric is hypocritical. And she thinks the rules do not apply to her. The last time she held a press conference she lied repeatedly to the American public. Is that really what America wants from our next president? Four years of lies? Four years of scandal? Four years of failed policies,” he said.

“We can do better. We deserve better,” Priebus added.

Clinton officially launched a vigorous campaign to secure the Democratic nomination for the 2016 elections, seven years after a bitter defeat to President Barack Obama.

She claimed that she wants to be a champion for ordinary Americans fighting their way back from tough economic times.

“With no record to run on, Hillary Clinton's only hope it to convince Americans she shares their concerns and understands their challenges. That will be difficult for the consummate DC insider, whose main concern in recent years has been using her connections to rake in $300,000 a speech,” Priebus said.

He accused the former secretary of state of “hypocrisy and deception,” saying those should alone disqualify her for the presidency.

Clinton has come under intense criticism after the New York Times published a report early in March that suggested Clinton violated federal regulations by using a personal email account for government business, potentially shielding her correspondence from public inquiries.

Obama earlier said Clinton would be an excellent president.

"She was a formidable candidate in 2008. She was a great supporter of mine in the general election. She was an outstanding secretary of state. She is my friend,” Obama said on Saturday in Panama City, Panama.

Clinton was the secretary of state during Obama’s first term and his primary opponent before that in the 2008 presidential election.

She is also the wife of former US President Bill Clinton who was in office from 1993 to 2001.
