Lausanne statement good sign in nuclear issue: Larijani

Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani

Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani says the recent joint statement by Iran and the P5+1 group in Switzerland is a “good sign” for resolution of the nuclear issue.

“The Lausanne press release, which was the outcome of the negotiations over recent months, is a good sign of the [final] settlement of the nuclear issue,” Larijani said on Monday.

He added that Majlis supports the Iranian negotiating team, expressing hope that the negotiators would manage to assert within the next few months the nation’s will to possess nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Larijani also hope that “international negotiations would lead to the preservation of the Iranian people’s rights” so that they may benefit from nuclear know-how.

“I hope these negotiations would settle problems created by ill-wishers and prepare the ground for economic prosperity,” the Majlis speaker said.

He emphasized that the termination of the sanctions would help improve the country’s economy.

Iran and the P5+1 states – the US, France, Britain, Russia and China plus Germany – issued a joint statement at the end of eight days of sensitive nuclear negotiations in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2.

Iran and the six global powers will now work to draw up a final accord by the end of the self-designated June 30 deadline.
