A bus carrying Turkey's Fenerbahce football team has reportedly come under armed attack in the country's northeast as the players were returning from an away game.
The Turkish league pacesetter’s bus came under gunfire on Saturday as it was driving to the Trabzon airport after beating Rizespor 5-1 in the Black Sea city of Rize, said the club.
The club's vice president, Mahmut Uslu, who was on the bus during the attack, said the driver received facial injuries and was taken to hospital.
He added that the attackers were attempting to “crash the bus and kill the players.”
However, Trabzon Governor Abdulcelil Oz said the driver seemed to have been hit by a stone and not gunfire.
